The fall musical is running all weekend at Hillcrest, as students inhabit the colorful world of Dr. Seuss in “Seussical the Musical.”
Thursday morning the cast put on a special matinee performance for elementary students, to be followed by evening shows on Friday and Saturday, then a final show Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. Tickets can only be purchased at the door.
The musical is under the direction of HHS drama teacher Kelli Studdard. Maestro Lisa Fent conducts the HHS orchestra, which has been working hard to prepare for the program. Adults pay $5 dollars, and for senior citizens and children it’s only $3 dollars.
The musical centers on Horton the elephant’s endeavors to protect the people of Who-ville, who live on a tiny speck of dust. Horton, of course, is from the popular book “Horton Hears a Who!“
The play also includes characters from many other Seuss stories. The energetic Cat in the Hat is the narrator, and he’s always finding ways to inject himself into the action.
Tyler Bueno, who plays Horton, said, “I’m really excited for the musical because of the audience interaction, and all the energy, and because it’s Dr. Seuss.”
“I think the show’s going to be really good this year. We have an enthusiastic cast, really good parts, so I’m excited,” said Michelle Obrey.
Senior cast member Mark Blaine summed it all up: “I think Seussical will be fun to perform and fun to watch.”
